WiiU-html5-BrowserNetFront NX is the Wii U’s internet built-in browser that won’t allow plugins and will be HTML5 technology, facing the future of browsing while being a letdown for the fair amount of websites that still haven’t switched to it yet.

We see the integration of web browsers in most ‘smart’ devices in the market for the past few years, from refrigerators, smart TVs to game consoles. Nintendo Wii browser was powered by Opera which was a good deal, yes, back in 2006. These days browsers should meet some compliance and compatibility such as plugins and definitely flash! But flash days are about to be over, therefore we face the limbo between flash plugin into the total transition to HTML5 which promises to render pages, images and video players faster and more secure than just flash plugin.

Examples of this kind of browser we can see on new smartphones like Android OS and Apple’s iOS like the iPad, iPhone, iPod etc. Most browsers are switching to plugin-less mode which improves speed and a more secure experience and video sites like YouTube are starting to support given technology.

nintendo-wii-u-html5-browserIs it good or bad for Nintendo using HTML5? No, in fact, it is futuristic, but a halfway solution such as Microsoft’s hybrid iE10 (HTML5 with built in flash plugin) could have given Nintendo a better customer experience and another reason for gamers to prefer Nintendo’s new console. My point of view is, game consoles are for gaming, PC’s are for computing. Browsing the web is indeed mostly part of PC usage but it’s getting integrated within all kinds of internet capable devices. For best results, you can always turn to a computer; for some casual internet you can use a smartphone, smart TV or even a game console. HTML5 with flash or not, it wouldn’t have hurt AT ALL for it to be featured in Nintendo Wii U’s Netfront NX browser, instead, it would have been an advantage!

Nintendo, the worldwide leader in home consoles comes back with a new and improved way to play, a revolutionary cutting edge entertainment system: Nintendo Wii U. This new Nintendo console is said to be a powerhorse with amazing specs that will improve the gaming experience along with its new-in-the-market, Wii U gamepad which consists in a (sort of) tablet/handheld with a HD screen in the middle and controller sticks, pads and buttons on each side, being the screen some kind of main screen extension, second screen or it gives you the ability to have whether in-menu settings to choose or a wider viewing angle. Nintendo Wii U release date is set for the US on November 18, November 30 in Europe and December 8 in Japan.

Wii U will be backwards compatible with Wii games, Wii Motes and such accessories. It won’t be backwards compatible with GameCube at all, but games can be downloaded via virtual console.

Wii-U-Multiplayer-gamepad-and-wii-motes

Wii Mote compatible with Wii U, excellent if you have plenty of them!

The specs of the Nintendo Wii U are the following:
• CPU: IBM Power7-based multicore processor (no info on clock speed is available yet)
• GPU: Custom AMD high-definition GPU
• Storage: 8GB or 32GB of internal SSD, with the option to expand via SD card and external USB drives
• Networking: 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, plus optional Ethernet connection via USB dongle
• Connections: Four USB 2.0, one SD card slot, AV multi-out port, supporting composite/component/VGA, HDMI 1.4 port, internal NFC sensor
• Audio: Six-channel PCM linear output via HDMI, or analog via AV multi-out

Additionally, it comes with amazing 2GB of RAM, compared to 256MB that Sony’s PS3 has, no Blu-ray playback though disc reader speed will be of 25MBps compared to Xbox 360 15MBps and PS3 at 9MBps, meaning better and faster loading times compared to the competition.

-HOW WELL WOULD NINTENDO PERFORM ACCORDING TO THE SPECS?

Nevertheless, there is a big misunderstanding when comparing the specs the Wii U has to modern computing. When you game in a PC you’re better off with a quad-core processor with 3GHZ acceleration and above, plus 6GB and ahead of RAM and 1.5 to 2GB of high speed core clock GPU to run the latest games in the market with no lag, no frames per second drop and superb graphics. Wii U’s IBM processor is below the comparison just made with a tri-core processor that would never match a Intel core i7; 2GB of RAM that we can tell is lower than 6, and a GPU that is somewhat comparable with AMD HD 7000 series which sounds amazing and is up to pair to current technology. Truth is, developers optimize games for consoles. When it comes to PCs, games run ‘raw’ and expect their requirements to be fully emulated while on consoles, they have been optimized to present the same gaming experience on lower specs. Note: This is a very VAGUE analogy, but you get the point!

Xbox-360-nintendo-wii-ps3-comparison

Nintendo Wii, PS3(original), Xbox 360

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3 have very comparable specs with each other, that’s why games tend to appear on both consoles (unless proprietary) and graphics are relatively similar. It is said that Xbox 360 is the best because it has 6X AA sampling compared to PS3 going only up to 4X AA. That’s in good English, what gives graphics a little ‘smoother’ view, with less hard lines and blur effects and shadows are real life feel. Both can display resolutions of 720p upscaling to 1080i, note that 1080i is not real HD, not full 1920 x 1080p, but not really noticeable to the naked eye, while computers can display up to 2560 x 1440p and sample AA up to 16X IF available for the game and if the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) allows and handles that kind of performance. Nintendo Wii (current Wii) is able to display only up to 480p, it is, by far a huge let down for graphic lovers and enthusiast but Nintendo have focused their efforts in gameplay experience and not in graphics, tactic that somewhat has worked but has as well let many customers disappointed, comparing Nintendo with 2nd Gen of home consoles (1st Gen 3D gaming counting from N64, PS1, DreamCast era) like the PS2, original Xbox and criticizing Nintendo’s few improvements from GameCube. The truth is, sales say it all, Nintendo has been by far well above current Gen consoles in units sold around the world, thanks to its original gameplay and fairly low price compare to competitors. Nonetheless, upcoming Nintendo Wii U is sad to be as many as 3 times more powerful than the Xbox 360, having 2GB of RAM compared to 512MB Xbox has. Central Processing Unit (CPU, Processor) is not the very best or the latest thing around, but developers manage to fully optimize juice all the power they need from the amazing GPU and amount of RAM. Wii U will be able to display full HD 1080p and sample up to 8X AA.

Must be asking yourself the question: “-Amazing GPU? AMD HD 7XXX series are so 2011”.

Yes, they are, but remember, this is not a PC, it’s just a gaming console with games optimized to run better with less system requirements and lower specs to have a start-to-end fluid gaming experience, plus, AMD HD 7XXX series GPU is still sitting at the top until AMD releases its new line, and not everybody can have the pleasure to game on their PC’s with one of them.

zelda-wii-u-hd

The Legend of Zelda HD for Wii U coming soon!

With all this been said, we can expect Nintendo Wii U to become a solid competitor for the current generation consoles and gaming platforms. Certainly PC takes always all the credit for gaming graphics, unlimited frames per second, lighting fast to no game loading time and the ability of whether using 2560 x 1440p high resolution or dual, triple monitor, all depending in the computer specs and capability to display and handle such customizations, but gaming console new monster in town is called Wii U.

Multiple--monitors-pc-gaming

Gaming experience on a PC will always be far superior than consoles, but set up all this makes consoles a simpler choice.

What we are not so sure, is how competitive Wii U can still be when Microsoft and Sony retaliate with a newer console hitting the market, that we are yet to see what these companies come up with. Nintendo Wii U release date is set for the US on November 18, November 30 in Europe and December 8 in Japan.

Long time childhood friend Nintendo, is coming back with a new home console, the successor of Nintendo Wii, the Wii U. Clearly Nintendo lacked of creativity when choosing the name, but they indeed did a perfect job when crafting this new piece of cutting edge art. It finally displays 1080p resolution (which predecessor, Nintendo Wii lacked of) via HDMI output, High definition tablet/controller (another sort of ‘hybrid’ device) that would work wirelessly like a Wii Mote with buttons like a controller and a second gaming screen in the middle, capable to extend display for a second screen for enhanced view, maps, inventory, and even to keep playing while turning the TV off or switching to another input.

can-you-use-2-wii-u-gamepads-at-the-same-time

Yes, you can use 2 of these at the same time with the Wii U

Beautiful high-definition screen the new Wii U game pad tablet/controller/handheld (how in the world can we categorize it?) can be used along with the Wii Motes and the new pro controller, very similar to the one launched for the Nintendo Wii and also very familiar in design with the Xbox 360, which would make some gamers very happy!
Finally a 1080p resolution that is not confirmed yet to support stereoscopic 3D. We have seen how PS3 have integrated 3D technology seamlessly even selling their own TVs and glasses for it. We have a few games (and list increases) for PC capable of display native 3D that certainly add value and effects to the gaming experience; Crysis 2 or Batman Arkham City 3D graphics in PC can make you cry out of joy. But why hasn’t Nintendo say anything about 3D? Though it was wide mentioned before, approving the idea of native 3D support, nobody has any clue now, even though most think it is unlikely for Nintendo to include them since with the Wii U Game Pad you will have to see 2 screens while on 3D mode and it would be disturbing since it’s too expensive for developers as well for end users to have 3D in the Game Pad too (Nintendo 3DS price would have to decrease considerably, even the new XL) Most consider 3D being indispensable and in fact, disturbing for hardcore gamers but for me, personally, it was a selling point since HD resolution y 3rd party games should have been part of Nintendo Wii back on 2006.

We have had huge console hits before like the first 3 Nintendo consoles, Nes, Snes and N64, being the last one, a major hit that changed the way we used to game forever. GameCube was a good challenger while Wii hardware, graphics and games wise was a real let down. I own one, I love it. I have played exclusive Nintendo franchises like Mario games (all), The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Wii Sports, etc. but when it comes to real hardcore games I go either PS3 or PC for Fifa, Call of Duty, Need for Speed, etc. I remember back in the N64 days, I used to only own 1 console and be more than happy with that.

Nintendo Wii U and Fifa 13: like a wish come true to manage formations without having to pause the game!

Nintendo claim they are not challengers; they are different. They don’t expect you to find the same games other consoles have, they expect you to have a different gaming experience that makes them unique, and more suitable for every home in the world where from son to grandpa can come together and have fun. Indeed, despite the lacks and cons Nintendo has faced with Wii, they are the leaders in current generation console sales around the world, far ahead than the competition. Even with that said and being very reasonable, Wii U specs are fantastic enough for 3rd party developers to shift their efforts back again to Nintendo bringing those games back, and now, with superb graphics and capability.

Windows-Surface-RT

Surface RT

Windows Surface RT tablet, released on October 26 along with Windows 8 is doing great in sales according to various analysts. They base their research conclusions in the amount of new traffic Microsoft’s webpage and Microsoft stores across the US are experiencing. No specific numbers have been provided by Microsoft nor there is any data available from other retailers since Microsoft decided to sell their new tablet themselves. So far, there are no plans in seeing the Windows Surface sharing shelves with the iPad and other Samsung or Google tablets in stores like Best Buy, although this might change in the future.
Windows-Surface-RT-Tablet-Colors
What makes this tablet so exclusive that only Microsoft stores and online can sell it? Nothing, in fact, it sounds more like a trial and error to keep in secret how good or bad sales are doing, to see if the Surface tablet is a strong competitor in the market, comparable to Samsung, Google, Apple and Amazon tablets or not. If there is any disastrous, shaming sale rate, that could damage the Microsoft’s image and its attempts to conquer the tablet world.
Windows-Surface-Tablet

So confident huh? Why isn’t it on major retail stores yet?

Besides operating systems, software solutions and gaming like Xbox and Kinect, Microsoft products are known to be less popular or a total failure. Even when the specs, overall build and design of the Windows Surface RT tablet are good enough to be a solid competitor in the market, is Microsoft ‘skeptical’ about its own child? If they keep the secrecy about sales and exclusivity about the product, then most likely their not confident enough and sales are not doing that great as analysts suggest. If we see the Windows Surface RT tablet hitting all other retail stores not associated with Microsoft, then it became a big hit and it was doing well enough, unless they’re doing this for now and changing their strategy when they finally release their long waited Surface Pro!

Just Like Apple, Tesla Goes To The Mall
[Via Cult of Mac]

The future neighbor to your local mall’s Apple Store.

GIGAOM ROADMAP, SAN FRANCISCO — Back in 2000, no one wanted to buy Apple’s products. Steve Jobs realized that potential customers needed to see and play with Apple’s offerings before they could be persuaded to buy them. So he launched a chain of retail stores in malls across the country. It was risky, but it paid off handsomely.

Now Tesla, the electric car maker run by Elon Musk, is trying to do the same thing. Instead of a traditional dealership, Tesla is building a chain of car showrooms right inside shopping malls.

To build out the chain, Tesla tapped George Blankenship, Apple’s former Vice President of Real Estate, who helped to roll out Steve Jobs’ mega-successful chain.

Speaking at an afternoon session, Blankenship said the mall dealerships are…
